Joost revealed !

Today, The Venice Project has revealed its brand and commercial name: Joost™


and with it, its new web site joost.com and a new client 0.7.3 with a joost skin (for beta testers only [1]).

From now on, it means more content, a client still in beta but even more stable than ever, new features in the coming days, and more and more beta testers.

For me, it means also I can now talk about it using its real name :)

[1] As we have now more invitations to distribute, send me an email to get one if you really intend to help us and give good feedback on Joost - I keep one for you, Guillaume, who ordered a DSL connection to be able to watch Joost (or was it to work at home as well?)

    I'm a Brazilian student/courios of technology.
    I've been read that you have some invitations to new Joost. I don't know if I deserve it, but I can sure you that I can help to improve Joost. What make me feel this? It's because I'm a programmer with 5 year experience in .Net, VB6. And I'm a AJAX, FMS Web 2.0 programmer too. Actualy I'm coursing Computer enginerring here in Brazil. And I can make a Blog to show everything that I found about Joost (in portuguese and english; portuguese because, here in Brazil, we have a lack of people that test and translate programs to our local portuguese; and in english because it is a kind of 'tech language';) . I can start test as soon as I get access to the system. Nowadays I'm a Microsoft Beta tester, so I have some experience on testing software and give feedback. So, if you can give me a invitation it will be fantastic!

  • Thanks for sharing your insider experience on the Joost beta. You guys really seem to be getting everything right. We all knew that television would be revolutionized eventually–-and I AM SURE that this is finally it! I’m anxious to actively participate in the Joost beta (and hoping an existing tester will send me a token).

    I expect that Joost will have a much bigger impact than the other recent announcements of high-quality online video services like Apple TV and NetFlix. Hard to imagine that NetFlix can deliver it online for less than the 78 cent cost in postage to round-trip a DVD, without using the kind of secure peer-to-peer approach used by Joost.

    Joost will change the media world in a huge way, companies from Google to Disney will scramble to adjust-–and it’s beginning to look like the AUDIENCE will benefit in a big way!

    I´m a content producer working on launching several internet TV channels. I am testing what will work the best for this endeavor. I am very impressed by the people running Joost and the vision for this convergence of TV/Internet. I will certainly give you great feedback. I have done beta testing for other services. Hopefully down the line once we have some solid content we´ll see if it can get picked up as a channel at Joost.

    I'm from Poland. I interested movie and internet TV so that's why willingly want try-out possibilities Joost and share my observations of functioning it. At present create new web page in technology ASP.NET, and have one in Flash: www.neut.xt.pl.If you still administer invitations i would be grateful for one to me, that can i testing Joost. I had opportunity to test several programmes and the intuition so far didn't mislead me when i choosing software to test, they stay on the market and still develop :)

Moi j'utilise déjà Zattoo pour regarde la TV online, mais la qualité n'est pas exceptionnel et le choix des chaînes est le mémé que ce que je reçois sur ma télé normale.   • Good Day in the good 'ole (or new) USA. I had the understanding that JOOST would have more restrictions here than from other countries? I find that pretty ironic, if true, with our supposed "open and free" internet. Or could it depend on your ISP... , I know alot of newsgroups are filtered by ISP's.... My ISP (COX cable) pushes the internet thru a pretty big pipe to my home.
    Another ? for me is platform specific... How about Linux...? I also run an Ubuntu box also, just to tinker with, but I do like it.

  • I got my invitation to Joost Friday morning at work. During lunch, I shot home to download and install. ( yes, I was a little excited)
    I am located right in the center of Georgia, a small town. ( We are getting our 1st Starbucks next month ) Installed with no trouble at all. It is installed on my Sony Vaio Desktop, 3 ghz, 1 gig of ram, running Win XP. I have a cable modem (ISP: COX) kicking the internet in at 7k.
    My purpose is to actually "use" Joost. I have a cable modem, but no cable TV ! We get TV from our rabbit ears, 6 channels. We do not watch much TV, just the news and Survivor. Mostly PBS when we do sit in front of the glowing box. We spend allot of time doing other things...
    My wife took little interest, ho hum. (She was not impressed by Ubuntu either) As long as she can surf, she's happy.
    Overall, Very Impressive.
    The navigation is intuitive, easy to pick up. A great channel selection. I enjoy documentaries and there are plenty to choose from.
    I spent an hour watching a deep sea diving doc. Picture was perfect, sound was great. There was no lags or jumps.
    There are commercials, short and sweet. A total of 3 during an hour. There are some 'brought to you by' 10 sec screens before music vids.
    My wife watched 'Rehearsals' for a good while. Bands jamming and playing in the studio. Actually had to search and download a band, "Jupiter Rising". So, you get exposure to a wide scope of global programing.
    There is a lot of "on demand" programming. Indi movies and short comedy or sports programs.
    I found I could still use the computer to surf while Joost played. Surfing, checking email ect with no problems or annoyances.
    Built in are some widgets, a chat box to talk to other viewers watching the same program. An RSS reader, which I have not set up yet.
    The program guide is a little busy. Probably because you are expecting something like a time and channel scroll. Took just a short time to get accustomed to it and now it is no trouble.
    As I went to bed, I selected "Comedy Centrals" channel and just let it play while I slept. Got up, still running, no hangs during the night.
    In closing, Joost delivered to my end of the swamp, a great product, easy to use and with content I enjoyed.
